“The new year has started with a bang”

‘Tafel’ delighted with Dr. Eckel’s donation

Christiane Böttcher’s beaming face was evident, even though she wore a face covering. The head of department for family-assistance services and ‘Integration durch Arbeit’ (integration through work) of Caritasverband Rhein-Mosel-Ahr e.V. (the local Caritas association), who also runs the Ahrweiler ‘Tafel’ (food bank), accepted a donation from Niederzissen company Dr. Eckel Animal Nutrition on behalf of the Tafel.

In the run-up to Christmas, Dr. Eckel employees had auctioned home-made items in a virtual Christmas auction, raising more than €500 for the Tafel in Ahrweiler. The company then rounded up this amount to an even €1,000. When Klara Eckel, production manager at Dr. Eckel and initiator of the auction, contacted Christiane Böttcher at the beginning of the year and told her about the donation, the latter was delighted and full of praise for the event: “This auction is really a great idea. And of course, we are extremely grateful for your assistance. The new year has started with a bang.”

Ever since the first pandemic restrictions were introduced last spring, the Tafel switched the way it distributes food to pre-packed bags. Then, a large part of the volunteers initially stayed home because they themselves belonged to the group of people at higher risk from coronavirus. Meanwhile, almost all helpers are back on board.

Klara Eckel handed over a symbolic cheque together with 200 FFP2 masks for staff and helpers to Ms Böttcher outside the beautiful old train station in Ahrweiler, the local headquarters of Caritas. A big thank you also goes to all the volunteers who show such commitment despite the adverse circumstances. The Dr. Eckel team wishes you on-going strength, success and good health!
