Fantastic holiday experience

SC Niederzissen organised holiday camp

Circus skills, climbing, lots of fun for the kids

What a summer! At the Niederzissen sports ground, some 80 children enjoyed unforgettable holidays with activities such as climbing, a circus workshop, swimming and lots more. This year, the camp has been supported by a donation from Dr. Eckel. On behalf of the organisers, Lars Hünermann accepted the donation cheque from Cara Schnitzler and Klara Eckel.

More unforgettable summer days at the Niederzissen sports ground

Some 80 children aged between 8 and 13 can expect what sounds like a professional, expensive entertainments programme, including circus skills, climbing and a disco, at the Niederzissen sports club holiday camp. But the 30 organisers have put the whole thing together in their free time. Lars Hünermann, who is leading the camp, is quite rightly proud of his team. “We plan the whole camp ourselves,” he explains. “Many of us took part as children and always enjoyed the experience, so this is something we want to pass on to the next generation.”

The camp has been held at the Niederzissen sports ground since 1988. Of course, a camp of this kind requires more than just the time and dedication of the team of volunteers. The impressive programme, including a visit to the climbing park in Mayen, the swimming pool, a table tennis tournament, a circus workshop and a kids’ disco, also needs to be funded. But Lars Hünermann and his team do try to keep the costs as low as possible for the children taking part. Sponsors are very much welcome. This year, the organising team were delighted to receive a donation from Dr. Eckel Animal Nutrition, a family-owned company based in Niederzissen. The staff at Dr. Eckel raised nearly 3,000 euros at this year’s New Year auction and company boss Antje Eckel matched this amount. This meant the Dr. Eckel team were able to proudly hand over a total of 6,000 euros for this year’s holiday camp.

“This donation allowed us to book the play circus, which the children are really excited about, and still keep the price for the one-week holiday camp at just 100 euros.” This year, demand for places has been high. Lars Hünermann recommends signing up children for the 2025 camp now. In addition, anyone who enjoys working with kids in a fun team is welcome to sign up to help. After all, none of it would be possible without the volunteers.

The Dr. Eckel team would like to wish all the volunteers and participants an exciting week of adventures, hopefully with no rain!
