Dr Antje Eckel in a discussion with Bonn students

The VDL student group at the University of Bonn invited Dr Antje Eckel, CEO of Dr. Eckel Animal Nutrition GmbH & Co. KG, to Bonn for one of a series of practice-based lectures. In her lecture, Antje Eckel described how she had come to establish her own company more than 20 years ago, when she was yet a young agricultural engineer. Even then, she was aware of the increasing importance of animal welfare in the industry. Dr. Eckel was the first German company in the industry to provide alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters. Today, Antje Eckel is considered the ‘pioneer of innovative feed additives’.

Subsequently, Antje Eckel and the prospective agricultural scientists had a lively discussion about their experiences, ideas and visions.

“It was an interesting discussion with great, well-informed students,” affirmed Antje Eckel. “We spoke about innovative solutions for the challenges in our industry and the (growing) importance of animal welfare, in developing countries too.”

Antje Eckel’s lecture was the first in the current series of six practice-based lectures.
